Man Raises Concerns Over 'Serial Killer' Doll

WBNS 10, CBS Station, Columbus, Ohio

We've been seeing some bits in the news lately about our 'Dexter' action figure being sold at Toys R Us, and rather than ignore what we feel is an unnecessary reaction, we thought it best to address what we feel is a double standard.

To clarify, Dexter is not a serial killer. He is a fictional character that happens to be a serial killer. In his fiction, he is a portrayed as a vigilante who kills bad people. The action figure we manufacturer of Dexter is marketed towards adults and is clearly labeled Adults Only 18+, Not Intended for Children. This would be different if Dexter was a real-live serial killer, but he's not. Again, he's a fictional character.

There are many examples of fictional characters that kill, and many of those characters are sold and specifically marketed towards children, unlike our Dexter products. For Example:

1. Edward Cullen, from the biggest story of the past few years - The Twilight Saga, is a murderer. He is actually a Barbie doll, and Mattel specifically markets this doll to children.

2. Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader is a mass murderer. He blew up an entire planet, exterminating billions of men, women and children in Star Wars: A New Hope. He also mass murdered Tusken Raiders in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and killed a young Jedi in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Star Wars toys are specifically marketed towards children.

3. The Joker, one of the most famous and beloved villains of all time from Batman, is a mass murderer. Joker toys are explicitly marketed towards children, We don't recall any uproar over millions of Joker figures being sold from 'The Dark Knight', where the body count was quite high for his victims.

4. And the list goes on and on. G.I. Joe (and their guns?), Aliens, The Terminator, etc.

All of the above fictional characters are sold at toy stores across the United States. The only difference is that our Dexter action figures are specifically labeled and clearly marketed towards adults only, while the other fictional characters are marketed towards children.

OH, AND P.S., IT'S AN 'ACTION FIGURE', NOT A 'DOLL'

Bif Bang Pow! Scores with Eastbound & Down®!

Manufacturer Swings for the Fences with Talking Bobble Heads Based on Kenny Powers Character from HBO® Hit Series

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 23, 2010) – Bif Bang Pow!™ scores again with talking bobble heads inspired by the HBO sports-themed comedy hit Eastbound & Down. This follows HBO's recent announcement that the hilarious and profane series will return for a second season this fall.

With more heat than a Kenny Powers fastball, the two 7-inch resin bobble heads of the has-been pitcher are already warming up in the bullpen with the first expected to arrive this summer, just in time for Comic-Con International: San Diego 2010 in July. Officially licensed through HBO Licensing & Retail, it features the Kenny Powers character in a baseball uniform. The second bobble head has Kenny in an all-black outfit (complete with sunglasses) that the show's fans will instantly recognize. Both figures voice catchy and unforgettable phrases spouted by Powers throughout the series.

"Bif Bang Pow! is thrilled to be adding HBO and Kenny Powers to its roster of players," said Jason Lenzi, CEO of Bif Bang Pow! "Eastbound and Down is an amazing series, and we've been big fans from opening day. Producing a bobble head like this is a first for the network, and we're extremely flattered to be the company making it happen. To misquote Kenny, 'if you don't grab one of these, you're out!'"

”Bobble heads are big in the world of sports,” said James Costos, Vice President of Licensing and Retail at HBO. “Kenny Powers may not be real, but he’s one of a kind, and we’re happy to see him join the elite club of favorite baseball stars.” Eastbound & Down is a raucously entertaining comedy starring Danny McBride as Kenny Powers, a washed-up major league pitcher who finds himself teaching physical education back in his North Carolina hometown. The show's ratings and popularity surged over its first season, and HBO's upcoming new episodes are eagerly awaited by the series' fervent fan base.

And the Rondo goes to......

.....Bif Bang Pow! for Talky Tina! (cue rapturous applause, hugs, stumbling to the podium, and the theme from 'The Twilight Zone' played by a full orchestra).

Hello Bif Bang Pow! supporters and beautiful people everywhere, Jason Lenzi here again, after a long absence. I could be clever and say I've been waiting for a momentous occasion to boast about, but really, I've just been a bit lazy. So, my apologies. God knows how you've managed your lives without me.

But, I DO indeed have something to boast about: our consistently coveted and sold out Talky Tina Talking Bobble Head from our 'Twilight Zone' collection has just won Best Toy, Model or Collectible in this year's Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards! How cool is THAT? You can keep yer Oscars, Emmys and SAG Awards. None of those poseurs has a RONDO! It's a thing of beauty, and once ours shows up we'll take pictures with him and post 'em up for all to see. It's an honor and quite a shock (to be cliche', we didn't even know we were nominated!) to be given such an award, but what did we expect from such a distinguished and tasteful bunch?!?

I advise you all, once again, to pre-order yourselves a few Talky Tinas before they're gone again. And now that she's a Rondo winner, her price will definitely go up!

Thanks again to everyone involved with the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards, and to everyone who voted. In the words of John Lennon, "You've got a lucky face".

Bif Bang Pow! to Produce '70s Style Action Figures Based on Some of the World's Most Popular Properties

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 2, 2010) – Announcing one of the widest ranges of highly articulated 8-inch retro-style action figures in years. In cooperation with EMCE Toys, Bif Bang Pow!™ is proud to bring the original "’70s style" of play to a brand-new line of articulated action figures based on some of the world's most popular properties.

Reproductions reminiscent of the best-selling action figures of the 1970s and early 1980s, these highly articulated figures will feature body designs by EMCE Toys. Each 8-inch scale figure will include real cloth clothing and plastic accessories where appropriate.

Over 40 licensed action figures are planned for 2010. The first are targeted for an early summer arrival and Comic-Con International: San Diego 2010, with others to follow later in the year. Included are much-demanded characters from:
The Venture Bros.™ (Cartoon Network)
Dexter™ (Showtime Networks)
Lost™ (ABC Disney)
The Big Lebowski™ (NBC Universal)
The Twilight Zone™ (CBS)
Flash Gordon™ (King Features)
Scott Ian (Anthrax)

The Venture Bros.™ creator Jackson Publick, who has been working closely with Bif Bang Pow! to bring these to market, noted that the upcoming figures are “very impressive and extremely faithful to the characters, while also finding a very comfortable middle ground between 2-D and 3-D design. Bif Bang Pow! has deftly solved a number of design problems I thought anyone attempting a 3-D interpretation would get thrown off by. Brock, especially, is going to make the fanboys crap themselves. Let's show these to the world already!”

"We're very excited about launching this new range of action figures. For the first time in Bif Bang Pow! history, all of our licenses will be living in the same universe. So if you've always wanted Dr. Girlfriend to seduce Dexter Morgan, or for Ming™ the Merciless to fight The Dude, now's your chance!", said Jason Lenzi, CEO of Bif Bang Pow! "And the exceptional articulation makes the posing possibilities virtually limitless, which comes in handy for animated characters!"

"The 8-inch format hasn't seen this breadth of licenses since its peak during the Mego days," said Joe Sena, President of SphereWerx, corporate parent of the EMCE Toys brand. EMCE partner Paul "Dr. Mego" Clarke added, "It is exactly this intention to mix a variety of characters into imaginative play that started my journey to bring this format back ten years ago. We're honored that Jason and his team sought us out to 'Mego-ize' the licenses he holds."

Visit bifbangpow.com often for updates, specific character announcements and images. Pre-orders begin today for select items at entertainmentearth.com and other fine retailers.

Retailers and press can see the first prototypes at New York Toy Fair, February 14-17, 2010, at the EMCE Toys booth #4944. For sales and to schedule an appointment while attending New York Toy Fair, please contact your EE Distribution account representative or Jenna Banks, Sales Manager, at 818-255-0090 x128 / sales@eedistribution.com in advance.

About EMCE Toys
The EMCE Toys brand (pronounced "em-see") was founded to bring playability back to toys.
Inspired by the original action figure company, Mego Corp., we strive to craft quality, durable action figures, playsets, and collectibles that recreate the sense of fun that toys were originally made for. Our launch lines are either licensed reproductions of original Mego toys and packaging, or original creations modeled after the classic lines of the 1970s and early 1980s.
EMCE is proud to have the active input and cooperation of Marty Abrams, founder of Mego and father of the modern action figure. We hope to continue to honor his legacy with our work. We have also been honored to incorporate the talents of veteran artist Harold Shull, original illustrator of Mego's classic and distinctive packaging from the 1970s. As we continue to extend this kind of inclusion of the original Mego teams, we get closer to our goal of bringing Mego back as a viable toy company in all but name. EMCE was created by veteran pop culture entrepreneur Joe Sena, President of SphereWerx, LLC, and craftsman Paul "Dr. Mego" Clarke.

If Venture has a name, it must be Bif Bang Pow!

You have no idea how long I've been waiting to use that tag line.

Greetings and salutations to all Bif Bang Pow! followers and believers of all shapes, ages and sizes! Well, as you've probably heard by now, we did it! Once again, we're bringing the people what we KNEW they always needed, toys for 'The Venture Brothers'! (If this keeps up, we'll finally give the world the James Bond action figure and vehicle line it's been dreaming of).

And just to prove this isn't some internet rumor, we even went as far as having the news printed in a magazine! Yes, the new issue of action figure bible Toy Fare Magazine hit the stands today (Issue #151), and in it you'll find an informative, witty and at times heartwarming interview with yours truly, which somehow manages to make me seem like I know what I'm talking about too! Pick it up, I dare ya, and see if I'm lying! Go on!

Truthfully, we have to admit to a bit of satisfaction when the news first broke, because for the first time in a long time, it was broken by a magazine. Not a website, not a blog, but a good old fashioned magazine, the way it used to be. And isn't that what we're all aiming for anyway? To take things back to the way they used to be? To have cool toys, for properties you never thought would get 'em, to get scoops from our 'secret handshake' magazines, and to be knocked out by season ending cliffhangers without spoilers? The world moves awfully fast, as someone smarter than me once said, and we here at Bif Bang Pow! recognize that. So we take our time, play it cool, and then try and knock you out. Please, won't you join us on this AdVenture? It's gonna be sooooo cool....
